A week of events and workshops about Sexual Health And Relationship Education
April 3–10, 2016

Milwaukee SHARE is a week-long series of events focused on adult sex education and healthy relationships. Our goal is to provide accurate and up-to-date information on a wide variety of topics via engaging programs, brought to you by experts in the field of sexuality education.

While it is true that elements of sex and sexuality permeate our culture, spaces for learning about sex in a shame-free, positive environment are few and far between. Though sex and intimate relationships usually play a major role in our lives, most of us experience little formal education about our bodies, sexual pleasure, or healthy relationship models.

We believe there is a need for accurate, comprehensive sexuality education in order to promote sexual health and wellness for everyone. The goal of Milwaukee SHARE is to spark conversations and encourage learning about sex and relationships in an engaging, compassionate, and inclusive manner.

Events are listed below chronologically (some events are still being developed-- stay tuned). Complete Milwaukee SHARE information can also be found at mkeshare.com.

MILWAUKEE SHARE KICKOFF EVENT with Twanna Hines
They Didn't Teach THAT IN School: True Adventures in Real-World Sex
At Hybrid Lounge, 707 E Brady St, Milwaukee, WI 53202
$5.00 COVER CHARGE AT THE DOOR, NO RESERVATIONS REQUIRED

Learning about sex in the real world can be messy, thrilling, embarrassing, funny, scary, and confusing-- often all within the same hour! Too often, our school and home education leaves us knowing "too little, too late" about sex and intimate relationships, and we're left in the dark trying to muddle out the details.

Join award-winning presenter Twanna Hines, along with the staff of the Tool Shed and other local storytellers, as they share tales about the things they wish they'd been told about sex and relationships, as well as exciting truths they've learned along the way. These stories-- at turns hilarious, poignant, and compelling-- celebrate the joys, wonders, and complexities of our bodies and relationships, while highlighting the importance of ongoing sex education throughout our lives.

Come listen to shared experiences and enjoy additional entertainment throughout the evening, including live sex trivia, free prizes, and lots of laughs.

TICKLING, TEASING, AND TOUCH:
Creating a Consent Culture for Kids with Lucky Tomaszek
At The Tool Shed, 2427 N Murray Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53211
FREE EVENT, NO RESERVATIONS REQUIRED

Learning how to say 'no' can be a very complicated thing for kids in our culture. As parents, we often feel resentful or amused (or both!) when our 2 year olds yell "NO!" across the room several times a day. We encourage them to share their toys with their friends and siblings, even when they have very strong feelings about it. Additionally, parents often neglect themselves to meet the needs of the family, which underscores the notion that other people are always more important than the individual. These, and many other cultural messages, make the very concept of consent difficult for children to really understand.

In this short workshop, Lucky will talk about the language of consent, as well as some basic house rules that allow your children to understand the importance of respect while also honoring their bodily autonomy. We'll discuss how to set boundaries for ourselves and still meet a young child's high need for touch and interaction, as well as practice using language that promotes a consent culture in your home.

The "Life on the Swingset" crew will delve into the logistical concerns (how to arrange a bedroom so ten people can fit on the bed), as well as the ethical ones (consent, interaction with people, disclosures of STI status and relationship arrangements), and address how to deal with potential issues you may encounter, creeps, left out individuals, and levels of risk aware sex involvement. In this session they’ll be broken down from all sides, the academic idea behind them, throwing them, and attending them.

Cooper S. Beckett and Dylan Thomas, both hosts of the popular non-monogamy podcast "Life on the Swingset," have been speaking and podcasting about swinging, polyamory, and everything in between for the last 6 years.
