Electric Wand Basics
with Nyx
Thursday, October 15, 8:30 pm

A violet wand is guaranteed to turn heads at any dungeon and in any bedroom. Are you interested in learning the basics? Sex and kink educator Nyx will go over proper use and safety basics of these electrifying tools. There are a few critical differences between violet wands and neon wands but don’t fret--Nyx will break those down too! She will give you the facts so you can decide whether this type of electroplay is right for you.

Nyx’s adventures in BDSM come from the top, bottom, and in between. She became active in the Milwaukee kink scene in 2010 and has been reading, studying, playing, and/or ranting about it ever since. Nyx also works at the Tool Shed on Milwaukee’s east side and shares their mission of providing medically accurate and socially aware information on topics of sex and gender in a non-judgmental atmosphere to anyone who visits the store.

This is a free class and will be hosted on Zoom. Online events are moderated: check out our online events policies here. The link for the Zoom event is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85937940816?pwd=RVVYQThzTkFYbjlVQ0ZEK3pQVVJkZz09

Tool Shed Book Club
Sunday, November 1, 5:00 pm
November book selection:
Making Spaces Safer by Shawna Potter

Book description:
Shawna Potter, singer for the band War On Women, has tackled sexism and harassment in lyrics and on stage for years. Taking the battle to music venues themselves, she has trained night clubs and community spaces in how to create safer environments for marginalized people. Now she's turned decades of experience into a clear and concise guide for public spaces of all sorts, from art galleries to bagel shops to concert halls, that want to shut down harassers wherever they show up. The steps she outlines are realistic, practical, and actionable. With the addition of personal stories, case studies, sample policies, and no-nonsense advice like "How to Flirt without Being a Creep," she shows why safer spaces are important, while making it easier to achieve them. Eschewing theory, she assumes the reader is already an ethical creature and jumps right in with candor, punk passion, and righteous anger to get the job done.

Event description:
Each month the Tool Shed book club meets to discuss a book or other piece of writing that sheds light on sexuality today. Book club meetings are hosted by the Tool Shed staff, and we pick different readings based on group interests. Participants are welcome on a drop-in basis; a monthly commitment is not necessary. Please join us!

Upcoming book club selections are available for 20% off the cover price at the Tool Shed. Please help support the Tool Shed by purchasing your book club books with us!

Queer and Gender-Inclusive Sex Ed
with Ashley Altadonna
Friday, November 20, 8:30 pm

American sex ed has historically been taught within the confines of a cisgender, heterosexual, able-bodied perspective. This view of sexual education ignores pleasure as well as the lived realities and experiences of LGBTQIA+ folks, reinforces misconceptions, and often fosters an environment of fear, guilt, and shame. This presentation will examine why our sexual education is so lacking and offer a more inclusive framework for learning about communication, consent, our bodies, and pleasure.

Ashley Altadonna is the Education Specialist for Trans Tool Shed, and a Sexual Health and Wellness Educator for the Tool Shed Erotic Boutique, a national awarding winning, mission-driven, education-based sex toy store in Milwaukee, WI.

This is a free class and will be hosted on Zoom. Online events are moderated: check out our online events policies here. The link for the Zoom event will be posted here, and on our Facebook events listings, on the day of the event.
