TOOL SHED TEAM REVIEW:
This game focuses on direct physical/sexual interaction with a partner.
This game is played on a large game board with six different types of playing cards; the card you play will depend on the space you land on. Card types include Role Play (acting out different scenarios), Sensory (often involving blindfolding and/or using different sensations on the skin), Sex (specific erotic/sexual acts), Impact (involving some form of spanking of use of striking implements), Contract (about the kinds of agreements that might be negotiated in a D/s relationship), and Bondage (involving some form of mild restraint). Each set of cards has two options (labeled 1 and 2) that indicate the level of intensity of the cards. You can choose to play the whole game at one level or the other, or you can start with level one and build to level two during a longer game. At the end of the game, a D/s card is chosen for the players to act out a final scenario.
Player movement and card choices are decided by rolling a die; players can choose ahead of time if they want to play the Dominant or submissive (D/s) role (or you can roll the D/s dice each time to decide if you want to switch it up). All of the cards rely on a D/s scenario of some kind.
The game rules instruct players to decide on safewords and discussing hard limits and soft limits before play begins. Doing that work ahead of time this is mandatory, since some of these cards might be challenging to some folks. The rules also advise having a safety scissors on hand, and using massage candles instead of regular household candles for any wax play, since some candles burn very hot. One game card mentions reading the rules for safe knots, but the rules do not include any instruction on safe knots (an oversight on the game-makers' part).
Helpful props to have handy include sex toys, a massage candle or massage oil, spanking implements, nipple clamps, safety scissors, and bondage implements like silk ties, rope, or cuffs (the cloth tie that comes with the game doesn't tie all that well).
The language on the cards mainly avoids mentioning gender for the most part with one exception, but the little playing pieces are cut in the shape of restroom signage (skirt or pants), and the instructions refer to players as male or female. That said, most cards and activities are very non-gender specific, and can be played by anyone of any pairing.
Accessibility note: There are a number of acts suggested on the card that involve a fair amount of mobility, so players with limited mobility may wish to do some adaptation before starting the game. One thing that can help is to pre-read the cards to gather ahead of time as many props as will be needed to play any given card. That said, the scenarios on these cards are very creative, playing heavily on interpretation and role play, so a good imagination can take you far.
The game board, cards, and overall presentation of this game is nice-- it involves a retro pinup theme and artwork.
