TOOL SHED TEAM REVIEW:
This game focuses on direct physical/sexual interaction with a partner and possibly others in a group playing scenario.
This game is designed primarily for groups who are very comfortable being sexual together, or who are open to exploring being sexual together. It works best with 3 to 6 players, though it can be played by two. Cards are labeled to make it easier to choose which ones work best with only two players.
Bear in mind that this is a game that involves drinking-- obviously users can choose non-alcoholic beverages if they so desire. Players should be aware of their own limits and discuss those limits before engaging in play.
This game is played on a large game board with six different types of action spaces (drink, strip, kiss, massage, reward (which is played by selecting a card), and forfeit (which is played by selecting a card). Reward and forfeit cards are labeled with numbers 1 through 5, indicating five increasing levels of intensity. The game board also includes four multi-action spaces, and a Fantasy section at the end of the board. Fantasy cards include the categories of Threesome, Voyeur, Fetish, and Role Play. The rule book explains the action spaces pretty clearly, but you do need to spend a little prep time becoming familiar with all the various rules.
Players move around the board by rolling dice. The choice of which player combinations will perform the acts described on the cards is sometimes dependent on who is sitting to your right or left, or it can be decided by the roll of a dice. In other words, sexual activities are not always with your partner, and players participating in groups of 3 or more should be aware of that going in.
The game rules advise having helpful items at hand, including massage oil, a blindfold, edible body paint/chocolate, and mood-setting music. There are several other mentions of food props and other items-- the game host might want to pre-read the cards to have these items handy if needed.
The language on the cards is pretty gendered, and assumes heterosexual pairing. In many instances, for example, the cards will instruct players of the "opposite sex" to do acts together, or will have specific instructions for men or women. The little playing pieces are cut in the shapes of restroom signage (skirt or pants), and the instructions refer to players as male or female. The genital areas are also referred to frequently as cock or pussy. As with all games, creative folks can be adaptive, and while a portion of the cards do not specify gender, this game's baseline and assumptions is pretty heteronormative and binary in terms of gender roles. If that doesn't appeal to you, you'll probably want to skip this game!
Accessibility note: There are a number of acts suggested on the card that involve a fair amount of mobility, so players with limited mobility may wish to do some adaptation before starting the game. One thing that can help is to pre-read the cards to gather ahead of time as many props as will be needed to play any given card. Also, the text on these cards is quite small, and the contrast of the text and card color can sometimes be quite difficult to read.
The game board, cards, and overall presentation of this game is nice-- it involves a retro pinup theme and artwork.
