Tickling, Teasing, and Touch: Creating a Consent Culture in Your Home
with Lucky Tomaszek, LM, CPM
Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 10:00 am Central Time

Learning how to say 'no' can be a very complicated thing for kids in our culture. As parents, we often feel resentful or amused (or both!) when our 2 year olds yell "NO!" across the room several times a day. We encourage them to share their toys with their friends and siblings, even when they have very strong feelings about it. Additionally, parents often neglect themselves to meet the needs of the family, which underscores the notion that other people are always more important than the individual. These, and many other cultural messages, make the very concept of consent difficult for children to really understand.

In this workshop, Lucky will talk about the language of consent, as well as some basic house rules that allow your children to understand the importance of respect while also honoring their bodily autonomy. We'll discuss how to set boundaries for ourselves and still meet a young child's high need for touch and interaction, all of which will help promote a consent culture in your home.

Lucky Tomaszek is a licensed midwife and sexuality educator living in Milwaukee. In addition to her current role as education coordinator at The Tool Shed, Cream City's education-based, mission-driven sex toy store, she has a long background as a birth worker, La Leche League Leader, and published columnist. She is the author of the semi-monthly column "MKE SEX", published by Milwaukee Record, and is a contributor to "The Ultimate Guide to Sex Through Pregnancy and Motherhood" by Madison Young. Most mornings you can find her balancing her cat and her keyboard in her lap, doggedly trying to make the world a smarter, safer place for people of all genders, orientations and relationship groupings.
